Ronseal Decking Oil

This Ronseal oil is one of the most popular deck products for a reason, it’s easy to use and the process is incredibly simple. This particular product is a durable scuff-resistant oil that forms a waterproof barrier to protect against weathering, warping, swelling, drying and splitting, all of which are common issues caused by damp weather and, as a bonus, hardly changes the natural colour of your decking. Not only that, but it resists mould and algae growth and its fade resistant finish protects against UV rays. This oil is great for use on both hardwood and softwood decking.

Ronseal Ultimate Decking Oil

If you have maintained your deck throughout the year, you may not want to do another full treatment. This ultimate decking protection gives superior nourishment and protection from all the elements with a natural finish similar to the classic Ronseal oil, it’s great if you have previously used this and want to give your decking some extra protection. It’s rainproof in just 90 minutes and resists mould and algae growth and also lasts twice as long as standard decking oils so you don’t need to worry about topping it up when summer comes back around.

Joist End Grain Sealer

This product is a clear preserver, so it protects your decking whilst maintaining its colouring. It is formulated to protect against attack by wood-rotting fungi and will protect your deck from testing weather conditions but is only for use as a preservative. We recommend using two coats of this product for it to be more effective.

Last but not least on our decking protection list is Ronseal’s natural decking protector. This product is a unique wax enriched formula that creates a superb barrier against water penetration and helps prevent discolouration by protecting the deck against constant wetting, drying, splitting and swelling. It resists greying, surface mould and algae growth and is ideal for spraying so you won’t have to scrub on your hands and knees.

The perfect time to get your decking winter ready!

As the colder months creep in, it is best to make sure decking is prepared ready to be enjoyed no matter the weather!

Please see our top tips to keep a healthy and happy deck!

The first thing to remember is to remove all dirt, leaves and debris. Over time this can cause a build-up of bacteria and mildew. As the autumn leaves fall and the wind picks up our decking becomes a breeding ground for many natural yet harmful properties.

When leaves are left on a decked area this can cause staining and colour loss over time.

This can be easily prevented by following our top tips.

This one is simple but very vital! Cleaning the decking area to eliminate the mildew, you can do this by using a soft bristle brush and warm water (alternatively use water mixed with washing up liquid), we advise leaving the solution to sit for 5 minutes.

If mildew/mould is left to sit, it can become a slippy and unsightly surface that will break down the properties of the deck over time. Cleaning any timber area will contribute extensively to a longer lifespan of the product.

Mould left to sit.

Always inspect your decking! It is extremely important to make sure no remnants are left on the decked area and the timber is clean and free from any buildup. If any mildew or mould remains on the deck you can end up sealing the bacteria which will cause rotting and unfortunately make the oil or treatment less effective.

The best time to treat your decking is as summer is drawing to a close, or throughout Autumn. This is because treatment product do not apply correctly if the weather is too hot or too cold. Make sure the decking is dry for 1 to 2 days before applying any treatments.

Top tip! Try to wait 7 days before placing any furniture or large items onto the decking.

The best treatment to use is a decking oil, here at eDecks we supply a range of decking treatments and oils.

Decking oil is perfect for all softwood and hardwood decking, it helps restore natural oils lost through weathering and protects against mould and algae growth.

Treating composite decking is slightly different as the main benefit of composite decking is that it requires less maintenance than the timber alternative. Timber needs a little more care than composite decking. To keep your composite deck looking its best, you just need to keep it free from leaves and branches and clean the deck.  The best advice is to just use a suitable decking cleaner and consider it done!

When the worst weather hits, we recommend using a tarp to cover the decked area to protect it from the many stages of our unpredictable winter. We recommend this with any type of decking, this will stop the build-up of debris and protect from excessive rain, ice and snow. Melting snow and hail can cause the decking to warp.

We recommend treating decking or timber at least once a year to keep it in perfect condition! No matter the weather, we have you covered with our top tips!

Happy Halloween

Its Halloween weekend, we hope all our customers have a great and safe Halloween.

Here are some Halloween safety tips to keep your decking spookily awesome  oh and have you seen our autumn maintenance guide?

Firstly, do not put your pumpkins on your decking surface. Pumpkins will rot and sometimes faster than you think causing damage to that area of your decking. The moisture and rotting flesh (nice) will not make your decking happy one bit.

So maybe pop a plate under it or if your wanting to keep the aesthetics of your decking we sell samples of decking which would make the perfect platform for now and future use.

On the subject of pumpkins the other reason to put them on a surface that is not your decking and is not flammable – candles! Yes, we all love the lit up look of our spooky creations but even tea lights get very hot reaching 100 degrees on the metal bottom and can scorch your decking or worse if it catches.

Finally keep all kids, cats, dogs and ghostly friends away candles. This is standard we only want you to be safe, If you are worried invest in some battery operated ones.

Lastly have some sweets, eat some pumpkin pie and enjoy your Halloween festivities.

Happy Halloween from us all at eDecks.

Note: Please dispose of your pumpkin in your recycle bin or alternatively It makes great compost.
