New Garden Designs for You to Try in 2022

It’s the start of a new year, which means you can get started on those resolutions! Was yours to give your garden a complete revamp? If yes, you’re in the right place, here at eDecks we carry a wide range of goods to transform your garden. Including decking of all shapes and colours, pergolas and bars to suit your style!

Open up your garden with dividers

Adding dividers in your garden can make areas feel closed off but not if you make it work to your advantage. A decking kit with rope handrails creates a separate environment in your garden that can be designated for seating and relaxation, which is particularly useful in busy gardens like those used by children and animals. Using planters as a separator can also add much-needed greenery in a perhaps smaller garden and makes the division flow naturally.

Dedicated hot tub area

Love the spa but can’t afford to get there every day? Why not build a zen hot tub area and make your garden the ultimate relaxation zone? We offer a wide range of hot tub gazebos that sit perfectly on both paving and decking and can be made to fit hot tubs of any size. Not only that but our brand new hot tub steps match our gazebos to a T, so your garden can be a matching haven!

Pergola and decking seating area

Pergolas and decking go together in perfect harmony, which is why we sell them together! No matter what size your garden is, adding a sheltered seating area is always a good idea. Our customer Mia has matched her furniture to her pergola and decking to create a relaxing and private area, which can be hard to find in new build homes. By placing a pergola at the end of your garden beside panelling it offers protection from all sides!

Build a children’s play area

Once you’ve built the perfect zen area for yourself to relax in, you’ve got to remember to keep the kids busy! This custom playhouse made by our customer, Jake with our red cedar shingles on our softwood decking is a beautiful way to make your garden child-friendly without disrupting the aesthetics you have worked hard to create there.

Revamp your fencing

Fencing is the frame of your garden, so if your garden is looking a little bit dull switching out the fencing might be a great way to bring it to life! We recently launched some new contemporary fencing which you can read about here so we have an even wider range to match your style. Whether you’re in a new build home or an old Victorian terraced house, new fencing goes a long way.

The winter months can be harsh on all areas of your garden, but decking is often the hardest hit. In this blog, we are going to share tips and tricks for the ultimate maintenance so you can protect your decking and have it ready for summer!

Ronseal Decking Oil

This Ronseal oil is one of the most popular deck products for a reason, it’s easy to use and the process is incredibly simple. This particular product is a durable scuff-resistant oil that forms a waterproof barrier to protect against weathering, warping, swelling, drying and splitting, all of which are common issues caused by damp weather and, as a bonus, hardly changes the natural colour of your decking. Not only that, but it resists mould and algae growth and its fade resistant finish protects against UV rays. This oil is great for use on both hardwood and softwood decking.

Ronseal Ultimate Decking Oil

If you have maintained your deck throughout the year, you may not want to do another full treatment. This ultimate decking protection gives superior nourishment and protection from all the elements with a natural finish similar to the classic Ronseal oil, it’s great if you have previously used this and want to give your decking some extra protection. It’s rainproof in just 90 minutes and resists mould and algae growth and also lasts twice as long as standard decking oils so you don’t need to worry about topping it up when summer comes back around.

Joist End Grain Sealer

This product is a clear preserver, so it protects your decking whilst maintaining its colouring. It is formulated to protect against attack by wood-rotting fungi and will protect your deck from testing weather conditions but is only for use as a preservative. We recommend using two coats of this product for it to be more effective.

Decking Protector Natural

Last but not least on our decking protection list is Ronseal’s natural decking protector. This product is a unique wax enriched formula that creates a superb barrier against water penetration and helps prevent discolouration by protecting the deck against constant wetting, drying, splitting and swelling. It resists greying, surface mould and algae growth and is ideal for spraying so you won’t have to scrub on your hands and knees.

What are the differences between composite and PVC decking?

PVC decking

Looking for new decking? The variety of materials on offer these days can be quite overwhelming, do you know the difference between soft wood, hard wood, composite & PVC?

If your would rather not have the regular maintenance and upkeep of timber decking and would prefer to opt for an option where rot and insect infestation are not a risk then composite or PVC decking would be the decking for you, but what are the differences between the two?

Before we take a look at the two individually it’s important to point out that both PVC and Composite decking share a lot of the same benefits, both materials are:

  • Extremely low maintenance
  • Hard wearing
  • Resistant to moisture
  • Vast choice of colours and finishes
  • Cost effective

Why PVC Decking?

PVC decking is 100% recyclable, made completely from plastic once it’s life as a much used decking has come to an end it can be recycled instead of going into landfill so is the perfect choice for the environmentally conscious. PVC decking has a LONG life span, lasting up top 25 years with the minimum of upkeep, you can even use a power washer on it without fear of it splintering, it truly is the lowest maintenance decking material!

Lightweight and easy to work with, if you are building a raised decking or planning to deck a balcony, PVC decking boards are easy to transport and lift up to any height.

Why Composite Decking?

Unlike PVC decking, composite is made from a mix of both plastic and wood pulp with a striking resemblance to real wood and available in a wide range of colours and finishes, the natural looking wood grain which in some cases is really hard to tell the difference between real wood and composite, helps to make composite decking a better option if you are looking specifically for decking that is slip resistant, it’s extremely popular for those with swimming pools and hot tubs for this very reason. The Wood fibres in Composite decking also help to create a more rigid decking board which is less likely to warp or expand in the event of extreme weather conditions.

There is no doubt both Composite and PVC decking share many benefits, if you would like to know more about either product please visit our product pages on the eDecks website or get in touch with our ever so helpful sales team, Coral, Marie & Josh!

We also offer plenty of support and expert advice for most garden projects – and definitely any products we sell online. Contact eDecks here for personalised advice for your garden makeover project today.

Decking Kits: Building Your Own Deck is Easier Than You Think!

An outdoor deck is easily one of the best ‘wow’ factors you can add to your garden. It’s a luxurious upgrade to a lawn, especially if you loathe mowing grass. If you have a large area to work with, you can use a deck as an extension of your home, creating an entertainment space for summer (and winter if you add heaters!). However, the idea of building one yourself can be more than a little intimidating if you’re not experienced in DIY.

We wanted to offer you a fix for that.

We offer decking kits in all shapes and sizes that make it incredibly simple to build your own deck. If you can deal with flat-pack furniture, you can probably handle a decking kit.

What’s more is, they’re affordable and building it yourself will save you a considerable amount in labour costs. Did you know you can get decking kits for less than £115.88 (inluding VAT) at eDecks?

You can even get a decking kit cut to size, so don’t worry about a premade product not fitting well.

With all that in mind, here’s a blog to showcase the different types of decking kits you can choose from for your garden this summer!

Cut to size and easy decking kits

The easiest kits to build are the no-frills, standard decking kits. You can have these cut to size to fit your space perfectly. They come in several different colours, designs and materials – from composite decking to anti-slip, hardwood and softwood, you’re bound to find one that suits your taste.

These are your basic deck coverings and can be built on both pavement or flat ground.

Decking kits with handrails

If your garden is on an incline or you prefer the look, getting a decking kit doesn’t mean compromising on getting handrails. Your decking kit won’t limit you to what you can add to it. Just like a professionally built deck, you can add any handrail system you choose to any of our decking kits. Glass, metal, wood or rope – any will fit onto your new decking kit!

What’s more, you can even buy some of our decking kits complete with premeasured handrails. Here are our decking kits with rope handrails, starting from just under £300.

Decking kits with pergolas

If you fancy something more elaborate than a simple deck floor, a decking kit may still be a good option. Pergolas and handrails can make your new deck look outstanding, whether you want to create a small, serene place for vining flowers to cover, or full outdoor entertainment space with space to hang lighting and heat lamps.

We have over THIRTY different decking kits with pergolas that come with many different combinations of pergola sizes and handrail style and placement. We particularly like “The Queen Anne”, a standalone deck with stairs and handrails that can add some serious wow factor to any garden.

And all in one ready-to-build kit!

Remember, if there’s a combination you have your heart set on that you don’t see on our site, get in touch and we will try our best to help you get the deck you’re looking for!

Composite decking kits

Just because you want the very best composite for your decking, doesn’t mean you can’t build it yourself.  Composite is a great decking material, offering longevity and very low maintenance and is pretty easy to work with too.

Longevity & low maintenance.

You can check out our composite decking kits right here.

[Pro tip: If you do want to take the plunge and build your composite deck from scratch, we also have a handy guide on how to figure out the components you’ll need for your deck here.]

Hot tub decking kits

Not many of us will be jet setting on holiday this year, so you might be considering bringing a bit of relaxation to your home with your very own hot tub. We have a full set of decking kits designed with that need in mind and, thankfully, they don’t have to cost as much as the hot tub did!

Starting at just £377.37, you can build your own deck for your new hot tub easily with one of these specially created decking kits.

Supplied with extra joists for the extra weight.

Don’t panic if you’re not on flat ground

If you live on an incline, it doesn’t mean you can’t build your deck yourself. We don’t just offer decking kits, but also kits for making decking steps. If you want more help to figure out what kind of steps you may need, don’t hesitate to get in touch – we’re happy to help.
