This concrete rebar is a standard reinforcing steel rod designed to strengthen and hold the concrete together as a tension device in concrete structures.

Rebar is commonly used in the construction industry within domestic ‘DIY’ and commercial projects of varying sizes. Its primary function is to improve the tensile strength of concrete and to balance load through slabs, columns, beams, and other structural elements. 

While reinforcement bar is not often supplied galvanized or epoxy-coated, hot rolled bars commonly leave the mill with a thin coating of mill-scale (iron oxides), which helps to protect the steel. Over time this coating will wear away, and surface rust can appear due to weathering. Rust that is caused by freshwater (rainwater) does not, however, affect the strength of the rebar when cast in concrete.
