Which composite decking is best?

So you’ve read all about the different types of decking available, and you’ve decided composite decking is the right choice for your garden. We can’t disagree – it boasts some incredible features. Being made from a mixture of plastic and wood, composite decking has the incredible aesthetic of natural wood while being far less maintenance (you’ll never need to stain, seal or paint a composite deck), lasts much longer and is far more durable.

But guess what – your search isn’t over.

There are several brands and product types when it comes to composite decking and they aren’t created equally. In this guide, we’re going to give you an overview of the composite decking options available to you and help you decide on the best decking for your garden.

RealGroove Composite Decking Boards

RealGroove composite decking boards were developed right here at eDecks, exclusively with our manufacturer, with the aim of creating the perfect “real wood” look composite board – and we are confident that you won’t find anything better.

It is fully reversible, extremely strong and thick at 22mm deep. Unlike many other composite decking products that create the wood look using a ‘scratched surface’ technique, RealGroove boards use a longer lasting technique through scoring indentations designed to outlast other composite boards on the market today. These deep indentations provide a longer lasting wood effect as well as an anti-slip property.

Many years of eDecks research has gone into the development of this board, but as we have manufactured the board ourselves, we can still offer unbeatable pricing on them; which means you get a top of the range composite deck at a far more reasonable price than other luxury brands.

RealGroove composite decking boards come in both pre-cut sizes and cut-to-size options.

EverGrain Composite Decking Boards

EverGrain composite decking boards are a luxury brand in the composite decking arena. The boards are manufactured to an extremely high standard in the U.S.A. with colours that are specially blended to create a “true to life” wood finish on all of their products. They boast unique grain patterns with a deep texture and can be easily mistaken for real wood.

While having an incredibly realistic aesthetic, the deep grain also offers extra anti-slip properties, which are an added benefit in our unpredictable British weather! EverGrain composite decking will not rot, fade, split or splinter – giving you the perfect blend of wood grain look with all the benefits of man-made board.

EverGrain composite decking boards come in both pre-cut sizes and cut-to-size options.

Castle Top Composite Decking Boards

Castle Top boards are designed with very deep grooves and are an excellent choice for outdoor use. The deep grooves offer the most significant amount of anti-slip protection, as water will pool within the grooves and run off the deck. Because of this, they are often chosen for use near pools and hot tubs to increase safety.

The obvious drawback for some is that these boards don’t prioritise on the “real-wood” look.

Like the RealGroove boards, Castle Top boards are thick and long lasting with a depth of 22mm. They are also available exclusively at eDecks, at an incredibly affordable price.

Castle Top composite decking boards come in pre-cut sized boards 146mm wide and either 2.4m or 3.6m long.

Composite Decking Tiles

eDecks also offer interlocking composite decking tiles alongside composite decking boards which, are probably the most straightforward deck to install with an interlocking system that even someone with basic DIY skills can install with ease.

As with all composite, it is extremely low maintenance and a great long-lasting decking option. The tiles can even be installed on top of existing decking, slabs or concrete and come with some hi-tech feature options, such as LED lighting, should you wish to make your deck even more luxurious. The LED lighting is entirely solar powered, meaning you can have a beautiful night lit deck with no electrical experience!

The decking tiles come in the ‘castle top’ design with very deep grooves to allow for proper drainage and reduce the risk of slips and falls, and they start from just £3.50 per tile.

Decking tiles are likely the most expensive option, but it’s easy to see why with all the excellent properties of composite decking boards with the added bonus of easy installation.

Composite decking tiles come in sizes of 295mm x 295mm.
